There are some strong college pitchers that could be available at our turn. Right-hander Greg Reynolds from Stanford, Daniel Bard from North Carolina, Brandon Morrow from Cal-Berkeley, Josh Butler from San Diego, Joba Chamberlain from Nebraska and Tim Lincecum from Washington should all go somewhere in the first round
I’ve read recently about a Stanford pitching curse, or somesuch. The gist seems to be that it’s not wise to take Stanford hurlers, because they don’t (aside from Mussina, I suppose) pan out. What’s your impression on that?

Wow, the top ranked hitters are so young this year…Aren’t Butler and Marrero like 17/18 years old?
I’d sincerely draft a hitter (if a good one falls to us) but we do need lots of pitchers.

Stanford pitchers have not necessarily panned out as one would hope. Aside from Mussina, some other names of note (round drafted): Willie Adams (1); Jeff Austin (1); Mike Gosling (2); Jeremy Guthrie (2); Rick Helling (1); Chad Hutchison (1 & 2); Kyle Peterson (1st); and Justin Wayne (1)
I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a curse. More often than not they haven’t panned out but, though I haven’t done the research, I don’t see this as a greater failure rate than any other name college

RZ - Josh Butler is a SP from University of San Diego. He projects best as a RP. Actually Jonathan Mayo from Around the Minors has him tabbed as the Nats’ #15 pick in his mock draft.

My bad Brian…
I was talking about Billy Rowell (yes, huge typo)
