Guillen to DL/Dorta Recalled

The Washington Nationals today placed right fielder Jose Guillen on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to July 19, with right elbow soreness.  The Nationals are expected to purchase the contract of utility infielder Melvin Dorta from Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League prior to tomorrow’s series opener vs. Chicago (NL).  Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcements (link)

With the elbow injury to Jose Guillen, the Nationals are scheduled to recall utility guy Melvin Dorta.  The 24-year old Dorta has spent the entire season in Harrisburg batting 277// with 15 doubles, 4HR and 24 RBI in 85 games with 25SB in 33 attempts.

Senators manager John Stearns believes a player like Dorta is an invaluable resource to a team.  His ability to play seven positions capably (everywhere but pitcher and catcher) will provide Frank Robinson with added flexibility to make subsitutions.
