• According to FoxSports’ Ken Rosenthal, Diamondbacks scouting director Mike Rizzo is on the verge of becoming the No. 2 man to Nationals general manager Jim Bowden, according to major-league sources. Rizzo’s exact title has yet to be determined.
• Arizona Republic echoes the news.  “Rizzo has spent the past seven seasons in the organization, including the past six as the head of amateur scouting, a period in which the Diamondbacks drafted players such as Brandon Webb, Chad Tracy, Conor Jackson and Carlos Quentin.”
