Minor League Signing

The Denver Post lists the Nationals’ first minor league free agent signing.

Former Rockies outfielder Michael Restovich signed a minor-league contract with the Washington Nationals

Who is Michael Restovich?

Restovich was a 1997 4th round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins out of Mayo High School in Rochester, MN. The right-handed corner outfielder was considered among the best Twins prospects ranking in Baseball America’s top five from 1999-2003 before stalling out. He’s spent the past two seasons bouncing between Tampa Bay, Colorado, Pittsburgh, and Chicago (NL), serving as a utility outfielder/bat off the bench hitting 250/328/400 in 137 major league games.

His best tool is his power bat. Reports say he can hit fastballs but breaking pitches are still an issue. He is a solid defender in the corner outfield with an average to above average arm. Restovich is likely to start 2007 in Columbus, but a strong showing in the spring could lead to a spot on the bench in Washington as a 5th outfielder.

    Updates to Viera Facilities Approved

    According to Florida Today, the Brevard County Commission voted to spend $2.6M on Space Coast Stadium in Viera for improvements in time for spring training next year.

    That’s about five times more than the county had budgeted for upgrades this year on the 12-year-old stadium, but $1 million less than new team owners requested last month.
