Great interview! Another comment on the minor leagues - last night at the P-Nats banquet, Andy Dunn addressed the minor league loss records. He said that your minor leagues are only as healthy as your major league team. When injuries plague the ML team, the minors lose players to cover those injuries (as we saw last year). He hopes things will be more stable this year and going forward and expects the minors to do better, although pointing out that they're for development of players, not for win records. (I'm paraphrasing - will have to check my notes and plan to have a report up sometime today)

Considering now much Dana Brown is constantly in an airplane scouting over the past months, its quite excellent that you were able to sit him down for a bit. Nice job. Good Post.

Tom: It was a great interview. I am not saying anything otherwise. I think its terrific that Brian tracked Dana Brown down. He' s hard to catch. No doubt.

What's with Tom? You wrote an entirely appropriate "kudos" comment that has no hint of insincerity. I thought it was a terrific piece too. Hopefully, I won't get a rap on the knuckles as well.

Brian started the interviews, and he should always be remembered for that. Some of us who have since come along (me, SBF) understand that we were neither the first nor the best. Platitudes, Tom, are just that: platitudes.

I do not believe Tom was taking a shot. I think his comment was more tongue in cheek.

I take no ownership in starting the interviews and I hope that it has not become a competition.

Thanks much for the interview - outstanding! I harken back to my childhood listening to talkshow host Pete Franklin and his constant hammering on the point of Pitching! Pitching!! Pitching!!! In that light I am encouraged by all the young arms we're pushing into the system. At this stage it's hard to rack and stack them and hard to know how they will develop but the talent level through the organization is miles above what it was last year. I'm going to take a stab at rank ordering our young pitching talent going on nothing more than what I've read! The rankings are based on what I consider to be highest probability of attaining upside and making it to DC... I've listed what I know to be high end fastball which of course is far from everything! Hard for me to know things like command and offspeed repoitoire. Here goes:

Willems (SP - 96mph)

Balester (SP - 94 mph)

Zinicola (Closer - 95 mph)

Gibson (SP - 89 mph)

Mock (SP - 95 mph)

Nunez (SP - 93 mph)

Chico (SP - 94 mph)

Carr (Set Up - 94 mph)

Van Allen (SP - 92 mph)

Martis (SP - 94 mph)

Stammen (SP - unknown)

Perrin (Set Up - 95 mph)

Pena (SP - 93 mph)

Fruhto (Set Up - 93 mph)

Speigner (Set Up - 94 mph)

Atilano (SP - unknown)

Spradlin (SP - 86 mph)

Everts (SP - 90)

Some other interesting prospects are in the system as well...I recall a Bowden interview where he listed Stammen in the top five so Bowden thinks a lot of him considering the other talent. I think it fair to say that since last summer we've seen some move up the list (Gibson, Carr, Zinicola, Van Allen etc.)... Hinckley seems to have fallen off a cliff - will be interesting to see if he can turn it around this year. I'd say this year is it or adios... The two kids that pitched in the bigs last year (Harris and O'Connor) I doubt would rank in the top 20 as far as upside goes.. And it's probably fair to say that Wagner even though he was on big league club is still a "prospect." He could be a dominant set-up guy....

Eric - Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the list. Stammen has a low-90s FB. He relies on his cut fastball/slider as his outpitch.
