The 2007 draft looks to have an impressive selection of premium college catching prospects, something the Nationals lack in their minor leagues. Arencibia, a second team pre-season All-American, is a slugging catcher with a good eye who handles himself competently behind the plate. He was a top flight prospect coming out of high school where he tied Alex Rodriguez’s career home run record at Westminster Christian in Miami, FL. He also played for the US National team in the FISU Championships in Cuba where he batted 302 leading the team in HRs. Arencibia was drafted out of high school by the Seattle Mariners in the 17th round of the 2004 draft, but elected to go to UT. He is projected as a top 20 pick and will likely be gone some time in the first round.
