Doolittle is viewed by many scouts as a developing lefthanded pitching prospect. He is developing as a solid LHSP, though he needs to ensure add a third pitch to his repertoirre if he hopes to remain as a starter. But he also has value as an above average defensive 1B with a great eye and gap power, think John Olerud. A tired arm prevented him from pitching for the US National team and his bat did not impress (batting 0.239 with 2HR and 13RBI). Doolittle is an above average all-around athlete and a drafting team will have to make a decision on where he best projects in the majors, similar to what the Pirates had to do with John Van Benschoten in the 2001 draft. Doolittle was last drafted in the 4th round of the 2004 draft by the Atlanta Braves but chose to attend Virginia. Doolittle may be familiar to the Nationals given their scouting of Ryan Zimmerman back in 2005 as well as his high school career in New Jersey (a favorite scouting ground of Dana Brown). Doolittle is a likely first rounder.

Hey I think the pic is wrong on UVa’s Doolittle. Same as the UT CA.
Here’s the big question in this exercise…who would Brian J Oliver take with the #6 pic?

Thanks for the catch.
Who would I pick? If they want to continue down the rebuilding path, I’d target one of the high school pitchers I’m previewing this week. The reason being that not everyone of the early 2006 high school draft picks are going to develop into major leaguers (so says history). So grab a Porcello or Ramirez or Main or Harvey and keep a focus on developing pitching.
