In his blog, Barry Svrluga mentioned
Couple other low-level draft picks signed yesterday, too, and now 31 of 53 picks have inked. (Favorite headlines: So-and-so Inks Pact)
The Nationals have confirmed for me that the two players signed were:
- 33rd round RHP Jeff McCollum from Southern University A&M
- 48th round RHP Kyle Gunderson from Rice University

Brian,
One of the top picks from this draft about whom I’ve seen nothing — anywhere — is 5th rounder Brad Meyers. Do you know anything about where things stand with him?

Ric - I have been unable to get any details on him. He seems to have fallen off of the map news-wise. I have to imagine negotiations are ongoing but I’ll keep shaking the trees.

Heres an article about him in case you haven’t seen it: http://lmulions.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/060707aac.html

Marcus-
Thanks. When the Rice link you sent says about Gunderson:
“Kyle could be a definite factor as a middle reliever.”
you get a better feel for why 48th rounders don’t make the bigs very often. I am happy for the kid. He will always be able to say he was a professional baseball player, at least.
