NFA Organizational Players of the Month - June

Columbus

  • Hitter: D’Angelo Jimenez IF - Jimenez batted 356/461/589 in 22 games with the Clippers (73AB). He was tied for the team lead with 13RBI and was tied for second with three home runs. (Honorable mention to OF/3B Kory Casto who was 296/337/367 in 29 games (104AB) with nine RBI)
  • Pitcher: Tim Redding SP - Redding was 2-1 in five June starts. Over 30 innings of work, he had a 3.60ERA and 0.97WHIP. What was most impressive was his 18 strikeout to 1 walk ratio in those 30 innings of work. (Honorable mention to RP Chris Booker who was 0-1 with 6 saves in 12 appearances. He struck out 12 hitters in11 IP.)

Harrisburg

  • Hitter: Steve Mortimer OF/1B - Mortimer excelled in his promotion to Harrisburg hitting 283/359/522 in 25 games (92AB). He led the team in RBI with 17 and was tied for first on the team with 7 home runs.
  • Pitcher: John Lannan SP - Though he made only three June appearances, Lannan was 1-1 with a 3.38ERA and 1.38WHIP in 12 1/3 innings of work striking out 10 and walking 5. (Honorable mention to SP Collin Balester who though he was 0-4 with a 5.09 ERA, he held his own in 35 1/3 innings striking out 24 and walking 8.)

Potomac

  • Hitter: Luke Montz CA - Montz’ 375/487/641 line earned him a promotion to Harrisburg. Montz was second on the team in home runs (4) and RBI (18) over 17 games played (64AB). (Honorable mention to OF Edgardo Baez who batted 298/396/489 in 25G [94AB] leading the team with 5 home runs and 22 RBI).
  • Pitcher: Jack Spradlin SP - Spradlin made six June appearances with five starts where he was 1-3 with a 4.26ERA and 1.14WHIP. In 25 1/3 innings, he struck out 23 and walked only 6. (Honorable mention to RP Josh Perrault who was 1-0 in 6 appearances [10IP] with a 2.70ERA and 1.00WHIP. He struck out 15 batters and walked only 3).

Hagerstown

  • Hitter: Leonard Davis 3B - Davis had a tremendous June hitting 346/391/568 in 22 games (81AB). Davis led the team with 11RBI and was tied for second in home runs with 3. (Honorable mention to OFs Justin Maxwell and Marvin Lowrance. Maxwell hit 375/44/675 in his final 10 games [40AB] with the Suns with 3HR and 10RBI. Lowrance was demoted to Hagerstown as part of Maxwell’s promotion where he hit a team-leading 4 home runs and drove in 9 runs in 13 G [48AB]).
  • Pitcher: Yunior Novoa SP - Novoa was 2-2 in his 5 June starts. He had a 2.70ERA and 1.39WHIP with 20 strikeouts and 9 walks in 26 2/3 innings. (Honorable mention to RPs Chris Lugo and Zach Baldwin. Lugo had one save in 8 appearances [16 2/3IP] with a 3.24ERA, 1.08WHIP, and 14 strikeouts. Baldwin had one save in 6 appearances [15 2/3IP] with a 2.30ERA, 1.02WHIP, and 14 strikeouts.)

Vermont

  • Hitter: Bill Rhinehart 1B - Easy choice. Rhinehart batted 381/440/571 in his first 12 professional games. He led the team with 13 RBI. (Honorable mention to fellow 2007 draft picks 2B Jake Rogers and OF Aaron Seuss. In 10 games, Rogers batted 364/417/515 over 33AB and Seuss 314/375/371 over 35AB).
  • Pitcher: Glenn Gibson SP - Though he does not have a decision to show for it (0-0), Gibson is an equally easy choice with 11IP over 2 starts with a 0.82ERA and 0.91WHIP with 14 strikeouts and only 2 walks.

Gulf Coast League

  • Hitter: Jake Smolinski LF - The second rounder made quite the debut hitting 385/407/538 over 7 games (23AB). Smolinski had four doubles among his ten hits and even stole four bases in five attempts. (Honorable mention to SS Esmailyn Gonzalez who batted 300/440/350 over his first 20AB of 2007.)
  • Pitcher: Brandon Claussen SP - Claussen is rehabbing from off-season shoulder surgery and has looked tremendous in his 15 innings of work. He has a 3.00ERA and 1.00WHIP with 18 strikeouts and only 1 walk in those 15IP.
