Brian, I am wondering why the Nats don’t promote their young pitchers fron the NYPenn league to Low A or High A. The Hagerstown, Potomac and even Harrisburg staffs can use some help.
I am not specifically singling out Gibson and Willems who are relatively young, but Alaniz, Staudt and Abreu are turning 23, while Pena is 22. I think 22/23 year olds should be “pushed” a little harder. Even GCL Meyers, who turns 22 should be given an opportunity in A ball. It’s not that the current A ball pitchers are having stellar years!

I’d imagine they will. It seems they may wait until the beginning of August and move guys en masse. I’d agree that Alaniz and Zimmermann could be promoted though I wonder if they are reaching their pitch counts for the season (including college)

Brian,
What do you think of Lannan coming up to the bigs now? He has had a strong year, but why the rush to bring him up and start his MLB service clock? To me, this is comparable to burning a college football player’s redshirt at the end of a losing season. Wouldn’t be better to let Lannan pitch in AAA this season and compete for a starting job next year without allowing him to accrue time for arbitration and free agency.

Pilchard - I don’t have any problem with it assuming he’s up for the rest of the season. He realistically projects as a back of the rotation guy and it’s really not the huge of a deal to get him major league exposure

Brian,
I see a some talented 1st base prospects in A and AA. Almost a log jam. Any thoughts? Young can’t stay there much longer, and who knows about big Nick with his injuries…

I was reading Jim Bowden’s article and he mention almost everybody he think have doing well in the minors, and he doesn’t have just one word for infielder Marcos Cabral that since day one have been hitting over 300 at Hagerstown. Don’t you think that Marcos deserve at least a little recognition? Do you think that he deserves be promoted?

I agree with roberto about Marcos Cabral since the system is very thin with quality middle infielders. Who is Cabral? Where did he come from? What are his tools - offense, defense, speed, etc.? And, is he a legitimate prospect?
