Anyone have an idea on their role? Theoretically that makes for 7 starters which is unwieldy. My guess is that they bring them out of the pen and let them go a couple of innings once or twice and then call it a year...

They might let them start the game, go two innings and then hand it over to the regularly scheduled SP. They did the same thing with Gibson last year.

got my question answered by Jim Callis today on espn

chris (NYC): Hey Jim, love the chats. I was wondering your take on two of the Nats AFL players Jesus Flores and Justin Maxwell? Maxwell has always had all the tools but has lost a lot of time to injuries. Hes starting to put it together this year tho (.280 25HR 35 SB). What do you see as a future for him? Also, does Flores have a chance to take the starting job from Schneider next year or do you think he goes back to the minors? Thanks a lot and keep up the good work

Jim Callis: Maxwell might have been a first-round pick had he not kept getting hurt at Maryland. He's one of Washington's better all-around position players, albeit a bit old for Class A at age 23. Jesus Flores is going to have to go back down to the minors and get some at-bats. He's another year or two away from challenging Schneider.

More props for Maxwell
