Latin American players from the DR, Venezuela, Mexico, and even non-Latin American players participate in a league that typically lasts from the middle of October through the first of the year. Most of the Dominican "name" players (think Miguel Tejada) were at one point "drafted" by a team for the winter league. They then will play for that team every year they decide to participate.</p> <p>What happened yesterday is that Dominican players who had previously not participated were drafted to their winter team.</p> The Dominican Winter League is one of many off-season leagues (from MLB’s perspective).
