Has Marrero been given any time at 1B? Do you think he should be learning both OF and 1B, just to make sure he has somewhere he can play long term without being a defensive liability?

Reason I ask is that he was 3B in high school ball, which gives players a head start in picking up 1B. Nats do not seem to have an MLB 1B in their system.

In a related question, you often hear of Marrero's struggles in the OF. How bad is it? What are the problems (like does he get an OK jump on fly balls? Is he sure handed, or what?)

From what I have been told, Marrero is taking infield at 1B in the Instructional League. I'd imagine the Nats are just verifying whether he can handle the position if need be.

As for the OF, from the dozen or so times I saw him play, it's reading the ball off of the bat that he needs to work on. He has a solid enough arm for LF, maybe a bit weak for RF. I'd give him another couple of years as a LF before making a switch to 1B.

A fair round-up. Davis made some absolutely spectacular plays at third and second. He had some errors, but he was playing at Municipal Stadium. He strikes out too much, and is too much of a free swinger. He also has problems when he gets in clutch situations where a base hit is needed. He tries to hit a home run, and strikes out. But he has the raw talent, and he's a good player. I think he'll make the majors.

Cabral had a pretty good season offensively. Defensively, not so much. His time at short was horrendous. He played slightly better at second, but the defense was still poor. The entire team's defense was poor though.

And for Suns fans there is good news: Tommy Herr has said he's looking to go elsewhere next year, and that he won't be back with the Nationals. Only those who went to the games this year will understand why, but this is truly a cause for celebration here in Hagerstown. Still, good luck to Tommy. I hope he continues to improve as a manager.

Davis was a good guy and always busted his hump, but I dont see him as a big leaguer.
He should wind up as one of those guys that bounce between Low A and AA depending on organizational needs of the moment.
