The Nationals had the following release this afternoon …
The Washington Nationals today named John W. “Squire” Galbreath II as Assistant General Manager, Baseball Administration. Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.
Galbreath has served as Director of Baseball Administration for three seasons. He joined the Nationals late in 2004 as a Special Advisor to the General Manager.
His recent duties have included overseeing all financial matters and budgets pertaining to baseball operations. Squire assisted in brokering deals that helped establish the Nationals in international baseball circles, most notably in the Far East and in Mexico.
Galbreath joins the Nationals’ baseball hierarchy behind Bowden, and along side Assistant General Manager & Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo and Assistant General Manager & Vice President, Player Development Bob Boone.
Galbreath spearheaded the partnership with the Tabasco Olmecas Baseball Club of the Mexican Summer League and was instrumental in the Nationals affiliation with the Columbus Clippers (he is a resident of the Columbus area). It will be interesting to hear the details about what he accomplished in the Far East.
