From the Nationals …

The Washington Nationals today named Kerrick Jackson as area scouting supervisor. Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden and Nationals Director of Scouting Dana Brown made the joint announcement.

Jackson joins the Nationals scouting department less than one month after completing curriculum in the Nationals Diversity Internship Program, which annually provides valuable field and classroom-type experiences within the areas of baseball administration, scouting and player development.

The diversity internship program, which took place in early October at the Nationals’ Spring Training base in Viera, FL and was scheduled in conjunction with Washington’s instructional league/camp, afforded Jackson the opportunity to work hand in hand with numerous high-ranking Nationals executives, instructors and scouts over a seven-day period.

Jackson will supervise all amateur scouting in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Before graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1999, Jackson played Division I baseball at Bethune Cookman College. He later served as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Nicholls State (LA) University and spent a pair of summers coaching in the nation’s premier amateur baseball circuit, the Cape Cod League.

The Washington Nationals today named Marteese Robinson East Coast Crosschecker and promoted Jeff Zona to Special Assignment Scout within the Professional Scouting Department. Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden and Nationals Director of Scouting Dana Brown made the joint announcements.

Robinson joins the Nationals after serving most recently as Director of Professional Scouting with the St. Louis Cardinals. Robinson is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where he was college teammates with Craig Biggio, Mo Vaughn and John Valentin. In 1987, he was named National Co-Player of the Year after hitting .529 for the Pirates. Zona recently completed his first season with the Nationals as East Coast Crosschecker and draws on 18 years of professional experience as a player, scout, supervisor and advance scout. He worked with Boston as the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series, and is credited with signing outfielder Trot Nixon and right-handed pitcher Cla Meredith during his tenure there.

Robinson was also a teammate of current Nationals Director of Scouting Dana Brown.
