There was only action in the Arizona Fall League where the Peoria Javelinas blasted Team China 20-4 (box/gamer). Team China is participating in the AFL as part of their training for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Justin Maxwell started at designated hitter and was 2/4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. Kory Casto started in right field was 2/3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBI (he was also hit by a pitch twice). Alex Morales pitched an inning of relief allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

On the 26th was the Rising Stars game, Justin Maxwell and Adam Carr played in it. JMax scored both runs for the West (one a dinger) but Adam surrendered the game winning run in the 10th.

What interesting is that Maxwell is kind of streaky. He went into a slump at the beginning at his time in the Carolina League, and then tore the league to pieces in August. The hot streak lasted through his time in the bigs, where he hit .304 with 2 home runs. Then he started out with another slump in the Fall League, and it looks like he’s starting to tear the league to pieces again.
I know the Nationals say they’ll give him a chance to compete for the starting center field spot with the big league team, but project him to start in Harrisburg. Is the streaky nature of his hitting what they want him to address if he spends another year, or even half a year, in the minors?
