Former Harrisburg manager Scott Little, who directed the Senators to a 55-86 record this summer, has been named manager of the Frisco RoughRiders, Class AA Texas League affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Frisco finished 85-55 this summer but was swept in the first round of the playoffs. Little, 44, played for the Class AA Eastern League Senators in 1988, spent a few weeks with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1989 and retired a couple years later before embarking on his coaching career. He announced after the 2007 season he would not return to the Washington Nationals’ organization, but said later he would entertain offers from the Nationals, who are still trying to fill coaching vacancies at several levels, including Senators’ manager. Little previously managed in the Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.
Still no word on the coaching decisions in the organization

That’s a good assignment for Little. Frisco is a first class operation recently highlighted by BA.

That’s good for Scott. The Texas league (I lived there once) is a good league. Still pulling for Paul Menhart and Gerry Browne to get a shot within the organization.

Note to Kasten:
The Redskins are losing and the fans are unhappy about the team, Fedex Field and the prices . The Capitals and Wizzards are losing and the fans don’t care. Time for the Nationals to establish a foothold in the Washington sports scene and develop a large fan base. Sports consumers in this area are hungry for a winning team. You need to do better than last year and fan support will improve greatly. I lived in Philadelpdia in late 1960’s and watched the Flyers hockey team (The Broad Street Bullies) take over the sports scene from the Eagles, Phillies & 76ers. The fans wanted a winner and they sold out every game for a sport that had no cultural history in the city. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake like the Redskins offense. Be aggressive and make the deals that will have people taking.

Brian –
I was looking over the list of the Minor League FA’s and noticed a couple of interesting middle infielders. What are the chances of the Nats signing a couple of these guys, especially since the MI in the Nats minor league system is weak, at best. Seems all that’s left are Bernie Castro, Leonard Davis, Ian Desmond and Seth Bynum as Abernathy, Yepez, Dorta and Thissen are all FA’s themselves. Do you know anything about these guys:
Tony Granadillo, 23 — SS (played in A+ and AA in BOS minors):
.326 avg/.410 obp/ .489 slg/ .900 ops
154 hits, 108 runs, 39 2b, 8 hr, 67 rbi, 57 bb, 68 so in 472 ab
Jesus Guzman, 23 — SS/3B (played in A+ in SEA minors):
.301 avg/ .370 obp/ .539 slg/ .908 ops
156 hits, 102 runs, 38 2b, 5 3b, 25 hr, 112 rbi in 518 ab
Adam Morrissey, 26 — 2B (played in AA in LAA minors):
.263 avg/ .396 obp/ .383 slg/ .778 ops
128 hits, 85 runs, 27 2b, 9 hr, 50 rbi in 486 ab
Jon Schemmel, 24 — SS/2B (played in A-, A+ and AAA in SD minors):
.271 avg/ .391 obp/ .336 slg/ .727 ops
Granadillo and Guzman look (on paper) VERY interesting.
Thanks!!
