I feel sorry for the guy if the Rule 5 draft is the only way he can leave the organization. I grant that he had his chance to make the team, but I think that 2006 was his real lost opportunity. He was injured just before Nick Johnson was injured to miss more than a year. He would at least have had his cup of coffee, and he could have impressed enough to improve his chances of sticking in 2007.</p> <p>Of course, since we got Dmitri, it worked out better for the team. But he's a pretty good hitter, has descent power, and plays 2nd and 3rd well, and could probably play short in a pinch. With major league hitting instruction for an entire season on the bench, he might be able to cut down on his strike outs.
