Any thoughts on Maxwell’s open stance at the plate?
Some hitting coaches favor it, since you see the ball better–with two eyes and not just one. But you have to take time to swing your leg around to get ready for the pitch, and an overpowering fast ball can nab you in mid-stride. The outside of the plate can be a problem zone too. Also, even though you try to cut back on extra body movement, especially with your head, an open stance has to add motion.
Maybe I have watched Tony Batista’s open stance too much, but it does seem like a unnecessary flourish for Maxwell. Comment?

Don’t see anything wrong with Tony Batista’s open stance. He’s got 221 career big league home runs and over 700RBIs with it.
Maxwell took off after opening up his stance last year. I think it will be fine.
