Across the Affiliates 04/17/08

RHP Collin Balester had a mixed afternoon in the Clippers’ 7-2 victory over Durham (box). He went four scoreless innings allowing only three hits and three walks with five strikeouts, but it took him 86 pitches to get there. LHP Jason Stanford picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of hitless shutout relief, walking one and striking out two. CA Jesus Flores was the hero on offense going 2/5 with his first Triple-A home run and three RBI. 3B Tony Batista was 2/3 with one RBI and 2B Pete Orr was 1/5 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Notes: As posted yesterday, the Clippers placed RHP Garrett Mock on the DL with a blister and brought Stanford back to the active roster from Vermont; additionally, CA Wil Nieves was promoted to Washington and RHP Chris Schroder was optioned to Columbus; CA Pat Nichols was added from Vermont and LHP Eude Brito was released

The Harrisburg Senators allowed two runs in the bottom of the tenth inning, missing out on the series sweep with a 4-3 loss (box/gamer). LHP Tim Bittner and RHP Jim Ed Warden  could not hold the lead in the home half of the tenth, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. CF Roger Bernadina was 1/4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases and SS/2B William Bergolla went 2/4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Tonight: The Senators return home to Harrisburg with RHP Marco Estrada (1-1, 4.50) takes on New Hampshire LHP Ricky Romero (0-1, 3.86) at 6:05PM

Potomac won their tenth straight game, dropping the Lynchburg Hillcats 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon (box/gamer). LHP Cory VanAllen moved to 2-0 on the season allowing only one unearned run on four hits and two walks over six innings of work with four strikeouts. Fellow LHP  Yunior Novoa chipped in with 2 1/3 innings of two hit one run relief, striking out three. RHP Josh Wilkie made things interesting, allowing the third run to score but closing it off for his first save of the season. 2B Matt Rogelstad was 3/4 with a double, stolen base and a run scored. 1B Chris Marrero was 0/3 but drove in a run. And, LF Marvin Lowrance was 1/4 with a solo home run, the eventual game-winner in the eighth.

Tonight: LHP Ross Detwiler (1-0, 3.86) takes the mound as Potomac returns home to face off with Wilmington and RHP Jason Godin (0-0, 0.00) at 7:05PM

Hagerstown was rocked for ten runs on eighteen hits in a 10-1 whitewash by Delmarva (box/gamer). The Suns managed their lone run in the first inning on an RBI single by LF Aaron Seuss (2/4). 1B Bill Rhinehart was 2/3 with a walk. 2B Jake Smolinski was 1/5 and made an error in the field. RHP Randy Matias started for the Suns, allowing five runs on eight hits over four innings of work. The Shorebirds pounded RHPs Kai Tuomi and Erik Arnesen in relief, piling up another five runs on ten hits over the final five frames. Notes: RHP Hassan Pena was placed on the DL with a tired arm. Matias was added to the roster in his place.
