Keith Law answered a Nats question today. Collier is an extremely raw OF from CA

Jim (DC): Keith, Who are the Nats looking at in the first round?

Keith Law: (1:35 PM ET ) I know their whole crew went to see Kyle Skipworth last week, then went to see Collier and Castro later on in the week. I've heard secondhand that Dana Brown really likes Skipworth, but that other teams are backing off of him because of concerns his bat won't play at another position.

Skipworth would be a nice first rounder. He's a gamble but the upside is appealing.

Castro seems a guy they'd target in the 2nd round if they didn't go with Skipworth.

Collier seems like a 4th or 5th round guy. Raw HS OFs are something the Nats have a bunch of right now.

Brian

If it comes down to a Gordon Beckham or Smoak and a college pitcher, what are the NATS thinking? I personally would like to see a college bat unless Tim Beckham (or David!) slides down. Do you think Marrero's presence might lead them to pass on Smoak?

j - My gut says take GBeckham over Smoak. I would not let the presence of Marrero stop me from taking Smoak though.

My top 10 as of today

Tim Beckham

Pedro Alvarez

Aaron Crow

Brian Matusz

Buster Posey

Gordon Beckham

Justin Smoak

Kyle Skipworth

Eric Hosmer

Tanner Scheppers

Chris - I just read Law's blog, he seems high on Collier. Maybe he's climbing more than I thought

Nats issued a press release today regarding international signings. Identifies three prospects from the Dominican Republic: infielders Elvin Cuello (16), Joseph Cabreja (18) and Alex Romero (18). They are "especially excited about Cuello, who projects as a quality, switch-hitting middle infielder."

Says that they have signed eight international free agents this year, seven from the Dominican Republic and one from Venezuela. Those signings include three catchers, three infielders, one outfielder and one pitcher, but no additional names provided.

I think Gordon Beckham would be a no brainer if he would be available to us. I would be more then excited to draft a SS coming out of college with good power and baserunning abilities. I would draft him before Smoak because we are loaded with first basemans and Beckham would provide us depth in the infield and I think he would take less time then Skipworth or another HS draftee to reach the majors.

Brian: Whats with the suddenly need of catchers in the system? Yes we do lack young catchers who are young and talented in the system but with Flores, Montz and young developping guys like Solano and Rooney I thought we are okay?

RZ - You can never have too much catching depth (or any position depth). And it's an area in the draft where traditionally there is not a lot of depth of premium guys. Guys like Skipworth and Posey are premium talents.

I would like to see us take Aaron Hicks at 9 if the big guys arent there. I like Collier a lot too, he would be a good 2nd rounder if we went more conservative in the first

Greg - I pop by there from time to time. Scheppers there is crazy (even before the news of the stress fracture).

Gordon Beckham & Kyle Skipworth on the board are easy choices ahead of Scheppers

I don't know enough about Shehan (Georgia Southern) to adequately comment. From the lists I've seen I cannot find him listed among the top 200
