RHP Bobby Brownlie allowed three runs in the seventh inning as the Clippers dropped Friday night’s game to the Buffalo Bison 3-2 (box/gamer). Wasted in the loss was a solid start by RHP Garrett Mock who held the Bison hitless through five innings and ended his outing allowing no runs on only one hit and two walks with five strikeouts. During the month of May, Mock is 1-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and only three walks over 30IP (5GS). RF Kory Casto was 2/3 with a solo home run and two runs scored. DH Alex Escobar extended his hitting streak to seventeen games with a single in four AB.
RHP Collin Balester got the Clippers back on track, moving to 5-3 on the season in a 6-3 Columbus win over Buffalo (box/gamer). Balester allowed three runs on five hits (three solo homers) while striking out four without walking a batter. LHP Mike Bacsik and RHP Jim Ed Warden & Chris Booker pitched the final four scoreless innings for the victory with Booker picking up his fifth save of the season. RF Kory Casto was 2/5 with a run scored. Since his return from the DL, Casto is batting 455/556/727 over six games (22AB) with a home run and eight RBI. DH Alex Ecobar’s hitting streak came to an end at seventeen with an 0/1 evening with two walks and a run scored. CA Javi Herrera was 2/3 with a runs scored and SS Rey Olmedo was 1/3 with a run, RBI and a steal of home.

Harrisburg 2B William Bergolla broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the tenth with asacrifice fly and CF Roger Bernadina followed with a two-run single as the Senators defeated the Defenders 5-2 in 10 innings on Friday night (box/gamer). Bernadina was 2/5 with a run scored and the two RBI. CA Luke Montz, 3B Ofilio Castro, RF Mike Daniel, and SS Ian Desmond all had two hits for Harrisburg. LHP Cory VanAllen made the start for Harrisburg, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 6 1/3 innings of work with six strikeouts. LHP Tim Bittner picked up his first win of 2008 with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and RHP Zech Zinicola got his fifth save for Harrisburg this month, allowing only one it in the bottom of the tenth.
Harriburg pitching was torched for eleven runs on fifteen hits in an 11-4 drubbing by the Connecticut Defenders (box/gamer). RHP Tristan Crawford allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks in only 3 2/3 innings of work. LHP Mike Hinckley was knocked around for four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks in only 2 1/3 innings of relief. RF Garrett Guzman was 2/5 with a double and run scored, CF Roger Bernadina was 1/4 with a triple and two RBI, and 1B Andrew Lefave was 2/4 with a double and two runs scored.

Potomac split a Friday night doubleheader against Salem, dropping the opener 6-2 (box) before taking the nightcap 1-0 (box/gamer). RHP Jhonny Nunez made a return to the rotation with six strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with strikeouts. RHP Adam Carr took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks in his two innings of relief. Another pitching highlight of game one was RHP Josh Wilkie who threw two one-hit innings of relief, striking out three. Over 10 appearances (12IP) for the P-Nats in May, Wilkie has still not allowed a run with a 1.17 WHIP and thirteen strikeouts. SS Seth Bynum drove in both P-Nats runs with a two-run home run. 3B Leonard Davis was 2/4. In the second game, the P-Nats had only one hit. Fortunately for them, the first inning solo home run by DH Matt Rogelstad was enough offense for Potomac to gain a split. RHP Joe Norrito had his second straight solid outing allowing only three hits over six innings of work with five strikeouts. LHP Yunior Novoa made another solid appearance in his final appearance for Potomac (he was promotted to Harrisburg on Saturday) allowing only one hit in his one inning of relief to pick up his fourth save of the season. Over 13 appearances for the P-Nats, Novoa was 2-1 with four saves with a 1.38 ERA and 0.69 WHIP with 27 strikeouts and only 2 walks over 26IP.
On Saturday, Potomac was blasted by Salem 10-2 (box/gamer). RHP Terrence Engles gave up six runs on six hits and two walk in just 2 1/3IP to fall to 0-4 for Potomac. RHP Carlos Martinez pitched three shutout innings of relief giving up only one hit and two walks while striking out three. RF Edgardo Baez, SS Seth Bynum, LF Dee Brown, and CA Brian Peacock were each 2/4 for Potomac. Baez, Bynum and Peacock each had a double; Baez & Bynum scored the P-Nats runs; and Brown & Peacock drove them in.

Hagerstown rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth before walking off with an 8-7 win over Lexington in eleven innings on Friday night (box/gamer). RF Michael Burgess (2/5) drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eleventh for the victory. There were hits up and down the Suns lineup with 1B Bill Rhinehart (four runs, one home run, & two RBI) and 3B Stephen King (run, double, SB, & RBI) leading the way with four hits. Burgess (two RBI), CA Sean Rooney, LF Boomer Whiting (10th SB), and DH Aaron Seuss (home run & two RBI) each chipped in with two hits apiece. RHP Brad Meyers made the start allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks over 5 1/3IP with four strikeouts. LHP Atahaulpa Severino pitched three shutout innings of relief without surrendering a hit. RHP Kyle Gunderson picked up the win with one perfect inning of work.
On Saturday, Hagerstown fell behind 5-0 and could not rally back, dropping the road opener in Kannapolis 5-2 (box/gamer). RHP Jeff Mandel fell to 4-3 though he allowed only two runs on five hits and two walks in 5IP. LF/RF Aaron Seuss was 2/4 with a double and a run scored; SS/3B Stephen King was 1/3 with an RBI; and CA Sean Rooney was 2/3 with a double. Since his return from extended spring training, King is hitting 377/415/574 over 15 games. Rooney has also been hot, hitting 0.459 over his last ten games played
