The Nationals have made a couple more moves, one pretty significant:
- LHP Josh Smoker was sent down to the GCL from Hagerstown; RHP Zach Segovia was promoted from the GCL to Hagerstown
- OF Garrett Bass was promoted from the GCL to Hagerstown, replacing Aaron Seuss

Well I guess Smoker had it coming. Hopefully he works out whatever problems he’s having and come back even stronger.

Smoker still has a lot of talent. But people need to remember he’s only 19. The erratic tendencies he had in Hagerstown are pretty normal for a pitcher of his age. He’s a better fit in the NYPL.

All true, but it would have been nice to see him really kick it in Hagerstown.

The young lad was getting killed at Hagerstown. This can only help. Detwiler is of more concern to me. His ERA is way high and he has only won because of run support by the P-Nats.

Anyone else think the Lerners are incompetent?

Good for Bass, took a liking to him last year
Hopefully Smoker is only down for a bit and then back up to Vermont for most of the year, perfect for a 19 year old pitcher

Another move - Ryan Delaughter (RHP Vermont) was released late last week.

IIRC, Delaughter was a 5th round pick in 2005. His HS team-mate Austin Jackson is a top 10 prospect in the Yankees system (he plays AA). The Nats did not wait long to ditch the idea of converting Delaughter to a pitcher.

I believe they have been trying to remaster him for about a year.

Delaughter left VT mid year last year and returned to the GCL to work on his pitching. He was not at spring training this year, but rather came in once extended spring started. During extended, he pitched very well. I don’t think he gave up any hits. His demise was his 1/3 inning pitched in VT giving up 7 ER’s resulting in his 162 ERA.
