That's too bad about Murphy. He was a dynamic hitter and sparkplug for that offense.

My guess is that Kory Casto will be sent down since he has options left. Bernadina will stick around to play CF until Milledge comes back

This year has shown us what "AAAA" means. We have had a number of folks come up, and only Jesus Flores has really distinguished himself. Of course, most of us wanted him to be the starting catcher from the beginning of the year, although it was unlikely that our enthusiasm would be rewarded like it was.

It seems that the best bet is to bring true prospects up. Manning and Sanches were passible (Manning looked better until today, I admit). What kind of curse are we under, though, if not only are best major league players get hurt, but our best prospects, like Marrero and Maxwell?

Bad times for Washington, in general. Poll numbers for politicians reflect bad times. The baseball team suffers. Economy stinks. We end up looking to Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Vermont for a ray of hope.

Maxwell has a history of injuries. He appears to be another Nick Johnson, talented but unable to stay on the field.

Players get hurt. Marrero's injury especially was a freak injury that can happen. Same with Smolinski's injury here in Hagerstown. Sometimes people get into the wrong spot at the wrong time through no fault of their own and get hurt. Nobody likes to see it, but it's part of the game.

Smolinski has been very attentive and watching the game closely during his recovery period. It'll be interesting to see how he plays when he gets back. I suspect he'll play well. He's handled the tough situation very well.
