Just received the following note from the Harrisburg Senators … “C Pat Nichols transferred to Potomac (A); INF Matt Rogelstad added from Potomac.”
You can now add Potomac to Nichols’ list of 2008 teams. He hasĀ also seen time in Columbus, Harrisburg, and extended spring training.
Rogelstad batted 274/320/442 in 79 games for the P-Nats.

Good for Rogelstad. Saw him play in Potomac. Solid player.

Nichols is an interesting case. He was only drafted 2 years ago, and not in the crazy low rounds. He is already an organizational player, with apparently no chance to make the big leagues. I guess the philosophy for such a player is that he might just catch fire at some point, and force the team to take real notice?

Not sure how he is going to catch fire when he never plays. He has a grand total of 23AB this season.

I guess he is living a fan’s dream, then. Maybe he has a really good resume for future job applications in mind, or even coaching.

Pat Nichols was still in the Harrisburg Senators’ uniform as of last evening. Maybe, he was transferred to the Potomac roster after the game?

Jane - Potomac was off last night so my guess is the move was announced with plans on having it done today.

Nichols will be joining Potomac on the road in Wilmington, DE. And believe me, this is no dream for Patrick. All he wants to do is be given the chance to play on a regular basis and show what he is capable of. He has never been given that chance since he was drafted.

I agree with Freda. Every player that signs a minor league contract puts his life on hold for the opportunity to realize a dream; most of them for money that works out to be way below minimum wage. A player who is in limbo could just quit, but these kids are not quitters. If they were they wouldn’t be here.
None of these kids dreamed of being a fan who gets to sit in the dugout.
