Just a note, Valero Heredia played left field in Thursday’s game as a spot start because of Whiting’s promotion. For an infielder, he played the outfield pretty well. There were two balls his misplayed, but he also made a few nice plays out there. I was impressed by that. I’m impressed by Heredia in general. He’s a real leader on the team, even if his average and hitting is subpar.

So when does Smiley get the bump to Vermont?
He’s doing very well in the GCL so far this season. What I like most is that in this two years with us, he has 24 walks and 21 K’s in 48 games. I think its awesome for a young kid to have that kind of eye at the plate.
I remember reading an article where the plan was to have him in Hagerstown by the end of the year. That’d be great as well. Id be fine if he plays the rest of the year at Vermont and starts next year at Hagerstown. But I think he’s ready for the promotion and hope he’s in Vermont soon.

Just in case anyone was wondering how Jason Dubois has been doing since the Nationals released him on 5/18… In 41 games with the Iowa Cubs, he has been hitting .342 with 17HR and 35RBI in 41 games. It would be nice to still have his power considering that the Clippers have 1HR this month (361AB).

I would not want to see Smiley at Hagerstown by the end of the year. That seems an extreme rush. Look at Smoker. I consider him more advanced than Smiley, and he was overwhelmed at Hagerstown. Speaking of Smoker, when is he going to pitch for GCL?

True that on Smiley. There was an article about GCLor DSL from somewhere this week that talked about how young the kids are and how they don’t travel in the Dominican leagues and that it is an adjustment for them. He needs to take it slow to begin with and if a taste of the NY-Penn League at the end of the year works–fine, but he is still only 18 and slow but sure works.

A Smiley Q:
Awhile back, he was thought to maybe lack SS talent and was considered a 2B possibility. Is he now considered to have the range, arm of a SS?

It’s GREAT to hear that RHP Alex Morales is pitching again! We hope to see him in Harrisburg, again, soon.
