I have been meaning to point out some good work over at the Washington Nationals Fan Forum. One of the folks registered over there, JMUAlumni, has been compiling some pretty exhaustive bios of 2008 draft picks. If you’re looking for a good background on these players, I highly recommmend it.
- 6th rounder Paul Demny
- 7th rounder Dan Killian
- 9th rounder J.R. Higley
- 10th rounder Tom Milone
- 12th rounder Will Atwood

Brian, regarding GCL boxscores (or lack thereof), it seems that the games where boxscores are missing almost always involve the GCL Nats. Is it a case of somebody with the Nats not reporting them to milb.com (or whoever is in charge)?

Andrew - I wish I knew. I have noticed the same thing

When do we start the countdown to the deadline? (19 days by my count….)

Hi Brian,
Have you ever gotten any information on fourth-rounder Hicks- like who the heck is he and why hasn’t he signed?
Brian Oliver | 28-Jul-08 at 4:46 pm | Permalink
The information on Hicks, both scouting reports and why he hasn’t signed, are pretty limited.

Hicks is just a front for Trader Jim’s bonus-skimming operation. He drives a front-end loader at the local Sam’s Club distribution warehouse and pitches American Legion ball.
/Just a joke fer chrissakes.

Any relation, Danny Hicks?

I’m his father. The stats I have quoted were compiled by his high school and the local paper. He was also player of the year in both the county and district as voted by the high school coaches.

Thanks, Mr. Hicks. I hope things work out with the Nats.

Mr. Hicks-
Not to be too personal, but we would love to hear any information about how negotiations are going with your son and the Nats… where are the negotiations now? How much did/have they offered? Etc.
Look forward to watching your son pitch in the near future.

Mr. Hicks-
I second that. The Nats really represent the kind of opportunity few teams do, I think. So many pitchers have been moving up quicker than they might have because of how badly MLB mistreated the club’s minor league system under joint ownership. The other teams choked the Expos/Nats, drafting on the very cheap and allowing the best major leaguers to leave to their teams.
Please don’t let this opportunity slip by- Graham will have a devoted following on this site as he makes his way through the system toward DC.

We are talking to the management and hope there will be some good news very soon. Graham, his mother and I also believe the Nationals would be a great fit. Thank you for your positive comments. Graham can’t wait to be part of the team and the great Nat fans.
