Sorry for the quiet over the weekend. I spent most of the weekend relaxing and working on coursework. Not a whole lot to report from over the weekend.

It’s funny how conflicted I am about this. In support of the Nats getting the first pick, I can only say that playing agains NL East teams should be harder than playing against NL West teams.
I guess I am hoping for the Nats to be hot to end the season, but for the other teams in line for the first pick to be even hotter. Alternatively, perhaps I would be satisfied if the players that the Nats are likely to rely on in coming seasons get/remain hot, and the team stumbles to the first pick.
Oh, and then they actually sign their two first-round picks next summer. An update on Aaron Crow’s season might be in order.

Never mind. I looked it up, and saw that Crow managed to pitch 1 inning in each of three games, without giving up a run. I can’t see how that helps his development much.

‘If the Padres win. . .’, he says.
PHS: Looking forward to the Padres visit to Nats Park weekend after next? Who are you going to root for? Let me know so I can decide myself!

Dick - I’m hoping the Nationals have a three or four game “lead” when the Padres show up, so that if/when the Nats sweep, they still hold the advantage.

In some ways if we get the 2nd or 3rd picks that might be better for us in the long run. Management is more likely to spend for a real tenth pick possibly. We haven’t seen enough from the Lerners to hope for better. On the other hand last night I was reading Boswell’s comments from his latest chat on WaPO.com and he tends to feel that if the Lerners don’t spend next year they’re going to be SOL with the fan base. The Lerners are already forseeing the loss of season ticket holders for next year or they wouldn’t have made the drasic cuts for ticket next year. He also doesn’t believe that Bowden or Kasten or Manny will or should be fired for next year. Please go read the transcript if you haven’t read it already. The off season will be interesting for sure. I disagree with Bos though, I think a strong case can be made for Bowden to get the axe. I’m hoping he does and can go back to a PR job. I will say as bad as this season has been I now know how my Dad felt about his Cards in the lean years. He’s only solice in these times was to remember Stan the man hitting a home run, hitting a little girl in the bleachers. That little girl was his sister and he got to meet his hero. I guess we’ve got Ryan Zimmerman hitting walk off homeruns and stuff like that…
What else do we have…

Games 3-5 of the CL championship series are slated for Thu-Sat, not Wed-Fri. Interesting “preview” from Opperman; made me wonder if his kids are (or will be) named Bart, Lisa and Maggie…
