No big surprise here, maybe Stephen King could have warrented a notice, but there was not much talent in Hagerstown this year and what we did have didn’t perform very well (Wilems being chief on this list).
Hagertown should be pretty good next year, though I think I thought that before this season too. Smiley Gonzalez, Smoker, McGeary all should start here.
I’m curious to see if younger guys like Nieto and Ramirez will start in GCL/VT or in Hagerstown for ‘09.
This league produces studs. Check out the impressive SALLY League prospect list from 5 years ago, including our onw Mike Hinkley and his scoreless appearance streak:
I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that the talent in Hagerstown wasn’t very good. A number of them spent a good portion of the season helping Potomac win a championship - Lyons, Suess, Whiting, Solano, Plasencia, Arnesen, Pena and even Rhinehart had a stop over on the way to Harrisburg. So often the stats needed to place a player on the league all-star teams (among league leaders) require him to be on the team for the majority of the year. Why else would no P-Nats player make the post-season all star team? We only had 4 guys play the entire season in the Carolina League, the rest were basically first or second half players. That’s what made the championship season so remarkable.
