Brian - does the AFL offer anything to the players other than playing games with fellow AA standouts?

Couple questions:
Do the Nat’s really still consider Ian Desmond a serious prospect? Seems like years since he was 1st on the radar, but just checked the bio and he’s still only 23 and although didn’t have high batting average, had a decent year at AA showing some power and speed. When is he due to become a minor league free agent?
What has happened to Zeck Zinicola in the last year? A year and a half ago he was the heir apparent to Cordero; now he’s struggling at AA level. Too much pressure/expectation too quickly?

I don’t believe Desmond is a serious prospect. He seems likely to max out as an utility IF.
I haven’t seen Zinicola pitch in person recently but he is struggling against more talented hitters. It is the difference between being a thrower and a pitcher.

Zinicola zoomed through the lower end of the system earlier in his career and has now come back to earth. I still see him as projectable to be a solid contibuter in the major league bullpen, but there are very few players in any organization who make the meteoric rise we saw with Lannan. This is a good lesson for Rhinehart fan (of which I am one).

Do we have any idea when Detwiler is going to get a start?

They don’t have internet radio broadcasts of AFL games do they?

I believe Detwiler starts tonight. As far as AFL, most pitcher throw for 1 or 2 innings. The rosters are considered some of an organizations top prospects - from AAA to A levels.

“Good” inning. For Detwiler especially.
